December 2008

Welcome to the last PLR e-newsletter of 2008.

PLR staff are busy preparing the annual statements which are due to be posted after the Christmas break.

Online statements will be available to view on 6 January 2009.  An email will be sent to those who have an activated online account to advise that their statement is available.  Users may then log into their secure online account to view/print their statement.

Statements will be posted second class on 6 January to those who do not have an online account.   If you would like to view your statement online and you do not currently have an online account, you must apply for an online account before the office closes on 24 December.

In order to reduce administration and postage costs, statements will only be posted to those who are due to receive a payment next year (ie those who have earned £1 or more). Online statements will be made available regardless of the amount earned.

The office re-opens on 5 January 2009.  Any online transactions which are submitted after 24 December (including log in applications) will not be dealt with until the office re-opens.

Please bear in mind that January is our busiest time of the year. Due to the recently announced staff cuts, it may take us a little longer than usual to respond to queries and answer telephone calls. Our website www.plr.uk.com contains useful information, in particular our FAQ page. You may find it helpful to refer to this if you have a query of a general nature.

Those who experience problems logging into their online account may find it useful to refer to the Online Account Help section of our website.

The next e-newsletter is due in March 2009. Happy Christmas from PLR staff!

If you do not wish to receive these e-mails, send a message with UNSUBSCRIBE as the subject heading to authorservices@plr.uk.com

If you are unable to view this newsletter properly, it is also available at www.plr.uk.com/allaboutplr/news/dec08 enews.htm

Irish PLR Scheme

Irish flag

PLR legislation has recently been passed in Ireland establishing a PLR system which will be very similar to the UK system.

Payments will be made to eligible authors for loans of their books from public libraries in Ireland.

The Irish system will be government funded and administered by a government agency - The Library Council - which is based in Dublin. The new Irish system is being developed in partnership with the UK PLR office and is being modelled on the UK system.

To make registration with the Irish PLR office easier, we are planning to ask our current registered authors for permission to pass on their details to the Irish system. Further information will be included with your January 2009 statement.

Please note that it is not necessary to advise us of your intentions at this stage. We confirm that no action will be taken and your details will not be passed on unless we receive your permission.

If you choose not to register with the Irish PLR system, or if you do not want us to pass your details onto them, this will not affect your registration for the UK PLR system.
