The Republic of Ireland's Public Lending Right Remuneration (PLR) scheme operates in the same way as the UK's Public Lending Right system by making payments to registered authors in line with how often their books are borrowed from public libraries. School, college and other publicly funded libraries are not included in the PLR scheme.

In Ireland all 32 public library authorities provide loans data to the PLR office on a monthly basis from 1 January to 31 December. Payments are made to authors in the following December.

Each year the Irish PLR office publishes statistics and other information on the most borrowed authors and books in Irish public libraries based on the loans data collected over the PLR year.
